PROJECT TOUR

MFAH | The Sarah Cambell Blaffer Foundation Center for Conservation

The Center provides dedicated studios for the painting, objects, sculpture and paper/photography conservation departments under one roof. Located on top of the museum’s parking garage, the project s the first installation of Dowel Laminated Timber panels in North America.

House Calls | XO House

LOGO Architecture

The XO House is a multigenerational live/work residence situated adjacent to White Oak Bayou and within the 500-year floodplain. Together, the ground-floor “X” and the courtyard “O” create a massing that is porous in both plan and section, producing a house that is simultaneously inward and outward-looking.

Young Professionals – Studio Tour Series

Menil Campus

HR Design Dept principals Heather Rowell and Eric Hughes, Brett Zamore Design and the Menil’s Mary Hohlt led a tour of current residential projects under construction across from the Menil Collection. Afterward, HDC Young Professionals hosted a happy hour on the Menil lawn.

The tour of Inman Gallery’s new location at 1502 Alabama Stree was led by Kerry Inman, DKA principal Dillion Kyle, and DKA associate designer Miranda Miramon. Happy Hour followed at Axelrad.

Project Tour | Sarofim Hall | Rice University

The new home for the Department of Art, in Rice University’s School of Humanities & Arts, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro and Jackson & Ryan (AOR), & built by Austin Commercial. It is a space designed to encourage collaboration — serving students in every medium and welcoming the Houston public for exhibitions, and collaborative events.

The current owners – Daniel & Carol Price – welcomed HDC for a tour and discussion of Victor Lundy’s home/studio design and the challenges of preservation of this unique structure.

Aura Dwellings

Russel Hruska lead a tour of Aura Dwellings design and factory tour focused on prefab home construction and the group was treated to a happy hour in a demo model.

This series will continue and programs will explore Houston’s design & construction community. All are welcome.

The Uptown Memorial Park Trail & Bridge Project

Representatives from SWA Group and the Uptown District highlighted the Memorial Park Trail & Bridge project currently under construction.

The suspension bridge and elevated walk system will allow cyclists & pedestrians to enjoy the local park network, which includes Buffalo Bayou, the Houston Arboretum, and Memorial Park and the historic Archery Range site.

Lecture and Book Signing with Megan Kimble, author of City Limits

In City Limits, journalist Megan Kimble weaves together the origins of urban highways with the stories of ordinary people impacted by our failed transportation system.”

Ms. Kimble explored her work and unique perspective during a lecture held at The MATCH.
